State Officers Volunteer at August Tournament of 2009 Massachusetts Special Olympics
Every year, the State Officer Team volunteers for their time for the Massachusetts Special Olympics. Usually held the first weekend in August at Nonotuck Park in Easthampton, they volunteer for the Softball tournament where they cheer on the competitors, keep score, and announce the players. The State Officers have a wonderful time meeting the athletes and coaches, as well as getting to know each other so that they can work collaboratively together throughout the year.

2009 Community Service Award Winner
Taconic’s chapter of Business Professionals of America certainly shows a lot of spirit. Not only do they show enthusiasm and share kind words, they also take part in making child smile every day.
Every two months, they gather as a group and create various cards sent to children who have life-threatening illnesses and deceases. They have decorated and made cards pertaining to Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Valentine’s Day. At each meeting, they have at least twenty of our fifty-eight members join to cut, glue, and paste stickers and hearts, along with write heart-warming messages.
These “love letters” are not just pieces of colored paper. These cards brighten a child’s day, along with giving them hope that they’ll get through this rough time in their life. These cards help to inspire children and give them the extra boost they need in the day. Families, friends, and hugs are wonderful, but these love letters provide children the opportunity to smile and laugh: a parent’s dream.
